Gilbertson Ready To Rock At World Finals |
Nitro Funny Car racer Bob Gilbertson is really looking forward to racing and rocking at the IHRA World Finals presented by the U.S. Air Force Oct. 19-21 at near-by Rockingham Dragway just 80 miles from his Charlotte based headquarters.
Gilbertson will be racing his beautiful Trick Tank Monte Carlo and hopes that he'll be able to do something that he hasn't accomplished yet this year, drive it to the winner's circle at his home town track.
Gilbertson has set track records, low et and top speed marks at various tracks on the IHRA circuit this year but a victory has eluded him in 2007 so far. He and his team, lead by crew chief Tommy Delago, are confident about their chances at "The Rock."
"This is going to be a big weekend for me, my family, the team, all my friends, my employees, and especially the fans," Gilbertson said. "First off we want to win the race, we've got a car that has what it takes and if the driver does his job and nothing breaks we should be able to get the job done. And since the weather has cooled down here in the Carolinas track conditions should be perfect for racing. We currently hold the IHRA Nitro Funny Car record at 4.841 seconds at 318 mph and it would be nice to re-set those numbers and win the race if front of all of my "peeps."
Gilbertson is also hosting a after qualifying party with a live band for racers and fans in his pit area both Friday and Saturday nights. Once again the semi-famous Belmont Playboys, who were a big hit at the Inaugural "Gilby Rocks The Rock" last year, will entertain.
"Last year's party was a lot of fun and this year's going to be bigger and better," Gilbertson added. "Three big days and two wild nights of racing and rocking! Plus I've invited all 120 of my employees to attend Saturday's Night of Fire and cheer me on so it's going to be big, big I tell you."
Television coverage will be on SPEED TV at a date to be announced. |
