| Gilbertson looking to end season on a high note |
| Pomona, prerace: -- Nitro Funny Car racer Bob Gilbertson is looking to finish the 2007 drag racing season on a high note at this weekend's season-ending Auto Club NHRA Finals at the historic Auto Club Raceway at Pomona. Gilbertson, who has had by his own admission, a lackluster year, hopes that racing at one of his favorite tracks on the circuit where he's had some good luck and results in years past will give him and his team the boost they need for the long winter off. "I really love racing at Pomona," Gilbertson said. "I've gone to the semi-finals there a few times and with any luck we should be in the thick of things this weekend. Our car has been running good lately but little things like parts breakage and stupid little mistakes have cost us round wins and if things go our way we'll turn things around and come out of Pomona with a smile on our faces. I'd like to become a spoiler in the points race and make some noise out there and let everyone know that we'll be a threat to deal with in 2008." Gilbertson will be racing his wildly painted Monte Carlo that he drove to the winner's circle a few weeks ago at his home track in Rockingham, N.C. and hopes he can duplicate that win at Pomona. "We've been racing our Dodge Stratus bodies most of the year but after driving the Monte Carlo I realized how much better I can see down track and hopefully I can drive it to some round wins and just maybe even win the Finals," Gilbertson added.
