Multi-time Motocross and Arenacross champion, Jim "The One Man Gang" Chester, fresh off winning three championships last weekend at the U.S. Open in Las Vegas, will take his first stab at Drag Racing this Sunday, October 19th at Rockingham Dragway.
Chester, who has raced against MX superstars such as Damon Bradshaw, Bob "Hurricane" Hannah and Jeremy McGrath, will be making license runs in Bill Evan's 275 mph A/Fuel Dragster after eliminations are finished at the IHRA World Finals.
Chester, who has driven down a drag strip in street type vehicles but has never driven a car with 4,500 horsepower, is looking forward to the opportunity.
"This is going to be one of the coolest things I've ever done in my life," Chester said. "I've been after Bob Gilbertson to let me make a pass in his Funny Car but Bob thought I should make a lap or two in an A/Fuel car first and I'm chomping at the bit, I can't wait for Sunday, I'm so excited and I doubt that I'll be getting much sleep between now and then."
Chester will be driving the Evans Petroleum dragster usually driven by Bill Evans that has run numerous elapsed times of 5.40 seconds at over 275 mph.
Originally NASCAR driver Mike Wallace was scheduled to make licensing runs in the car but due to his busy schedule and a family anniversary party on Sunday he won't be able to attend which opening up the seat for Chester.
Wallace will get his chance to drive the car later this month when his schedule permits. |
